About Me

I’m a 32 year-old Spanish teacher in the suburbs of Chicago. That has little to nothing to do with this blog, its just an interesting fact, and explains the random Spanish words and factoids that may appear every once in a while.

I was brought up in a household where dinner as a family was a huge part of every evening. My mom grocery shopped and cooked nearly every night, and if she didn’t, dinner was always something great. I’ve continued this tradition by cooking dinner for myself and husband nearly nightly. Sometimes, there are written recipes, and sometimes, I make them up…usually the latter! I’ll do my best to put what I cook in recipe form!

I believe that cooking should be something that someone truly enjoys. I think that when someone cooks out of necessity rather than desire, the food does not come out nearly as well as it would if it was an act of love.

I cook my meals with true thought about what would taste good, be interesting, and be an enjoyable experience. Food that doesn’t taste good isn’t worth the calorie intake, nor is it worth the effort of even eating the meal.

“Cooking is like making love, you do it well, or you do not do it at all”

- Harriet Van Horne

Just found your blog. Love it! Found it from a certain forum…
P.S. I was lucky enough to go to Chicago over the summer. That city is awesome. Really hope I can go back one day and do an eating tour or something.

The red frosting was just canned frosting with red food dye. The fluffy green one is here: http://www.imadedinner.net/2010/08/02/duckie-bites/

Hi,
I came across your blog in my quest for a Shrek and Fiona wedding cake topper for my son’s upcoming wedding. There are many suitable Shrek figures to be had, but I’m having a heck of a time finding Fiona. Do you have any advice? Thanks!

Hi Jan,
I actually had to have an artist friend make our cake topper for us because we couldn’t find one!

Dear I Made Dinner,

I am a daily reader of your amazing blog and I truly love every aspect you include in it, especially how important your family is to you. I am a huge supporter of TeamDad, an organization created by David Hirsch in Chicago, Illinois. He is a primary member of the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative and has created TeamDad with his wife to raise awareness and money for children who do not have father figures in their lives.

TeamDad created the Great Dads Coin as the perfect Father’s Day gift to give to those special men who are heroic figures in the lives of children. More than 200,000 children have been born this year without the name of a father on their birth certificate. Please help us raise awareness for Team Dad by highlighting the organization. Your help is so greatly appreciated!
