I have a very un-foodie type of confession to make.
I really and truly like Taco Bell.
It started as a novelty in high school when I’d go hang out with my friends in the neighboring town who had a Taco Bell and we didn’t. It was the one place we could get Mountain Dew, and somehow delicious Americanized Mexican food.
In college, it was one of the few places that stayed open late enough for our study sessions, and at that point, they had this fantastic grilled stuffed burrito that I just loved.
When DailyBuzz Food offered me the opportunity to try the new Taco Bell Cantina Steak Burrito from their new Cantina Bell menu, I figured “Sure, why not! It’s been a while since I’ve had Taco Bell.” From their product description:
The Cantina Steak Burrito is a delicious new addition to Taco Bell’s Cantina Bell™ Menu. Created by Chef Lorena Garcia, the Cantina Steak Burrito is filled with bold and flavorful ingredients, including citrus-herb marinated steak, premium Latin rice, flavorful black beans, guacamole made from real Hass avocados, roasted corn & pepper salsa, a creamy cilantro dressing, and freshly prepared pico de gallo, all wrapped in a warm flour tortilla.
Ok, sure. Steak? Guacamole? Beans? I’m in. I trekked out in the snow to pick up Cantina steak burritos for Adam and I, and at first glance, besides being heavy, the burritos looked like many other Taco Bell burritos.
The first bite though, brought a big surprise. One of my qualms with Taco Bell usually is that the lettuce is shredded iceberg, and the meat is… interesting.
This was obviously real steak and crunchy romaine lettuce.
My Taco Bell didn’t construct the burrito in a balanced manner, but once I got to the real heart of the fillings, I was pleasantly surprised! The cilantro sauce and guacamole were, dare I say, delicious? The corn salsa was sweet and hot, the tomatoes fresh and bright red, and the steak was spicy and well-cooked. I honestly don’t know that I’d guess it was Taco Bell if I didn’t already know.
I’d definitely buy this again, and probably with no rice next time. While it was a tasty combination, the bulk of the rice was just unnecessary! Adam, a true burrito connoisseur, enjoyed his Cantina steak burrito as well, and we’ve come to the conclusion that we would definitely buy a Taco Bell Cantina Steak Burrito again.
Thank you DailyBuzz Food and Taco Bell for the opportunity and push to try the new Cantina Steak Burrito! I think we’ve found a new “in a pinch” meal!
This post is sponsored by Taco Bell. See how great our steak is when you try the new Cantina Steak Burrito. Because when it comes to a great steak burrito, it’s all about the steak.
