Today, camp ventured out of our little suburban bubble to the beautiful and friendly confines of Wrigley Field for the Cubs vs. Mets game. A Cubs game with young campers is an adventure in itself, but in the nosebleed seats of Wrigley Field it’s an adventure in skill and boredom-aversion.
In the numbers:
246: Campers in attendance
46: Campers on our bus
15: Campers in our group
2: Wonderful junior counselors to assist our group
55: Minutes spent on the bus driving to Wrigley Field
508: Our section/aisle at the ballpark
3: Cubs players busted doing pre-game yoga, thanks to my zoom lens
4: Counselors and parents who got a kick out of this billboard joke
13: Cubs stickers I found stuck in random places
17: Times the scoreboard changed in favor of the other team
6: Trips to the potty ride
3: Slices of deep-dish pizza consumed by our group
4: Hot dogs consumed by our group
5: Bottles of $4 water consumed within the 5th inning
4: Orders of nachos consumed by our group
3: Bags of cotton candy consumed by our group
9: Campers in our group who actually watched the game
26: Times I pretended this view was actually the ocean and I was somewhere tropical
8: Times I noticed that the foul ball posts said “Hey Hey”
46: Floors climbed, according to my FitBit
12,144: Steps taken, according to my FitBit
7: Blocks walked after seeing this pathetic 6th inning score
1,135: Times we were asked for some water
4: Times we had to say “No, you can’t buy water from that strange man on the street.”
14: Pieces of maki consumed this evening
1: Beds calling my name
