There are certain things for me that just scream out SUMMER more than others.
The end of the school year is a sure sign.
Receiving my camp shirts is another.
Celebrating Skylar’s birthday is a third.
I remember rushing from a camp meeting to meet Skylar when she was born.

Then, a year later, rushing from a camp meeting just in time to watch Skylar smash cake in her face for her first birthday.

The beginning of camp and Skylar’s birthday go hand in hand. You’ve seen two of her previous birthday cupcakes here before:
And this year, I made a combination of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with a favorite Italian meringue buttercream frosting.(I omit the corn syrup now, and just add 1/4 cup sugar to the egg whites while beating). The cake was very very slightly adapted from Sweetapolita’s vanilla cake, and after I’d filled half the cupcake tins, I added 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder and 1/4 cup milk to the remaining batter. It worked perfectly!
We joined Skylar at her birthday party in the park, and had a wonderful time. It was a perfect day!
Adam joined Skylar on the swings
And after a couple hours of running amok, the kids gathered to sing happy birthday to an amazing 7-year-old.
The cupcakes were a complete and total hit!
And with the coming of Skylar’s birthday and the beginning of camp…it surely is summer!
