It’s OK, I’ll Make Lamb

Sometimes, I’ll inexplicably crave something odd and random. Usually, it comes from someone at work quoting something random, and then by word association, yadda yadda yadda, I end up cooking something out of the ordinary.

So today, a student asked something about people who “don’t eat no meat.” After correcting the grammatical error, I was thrown into a flash of this:

And suddenly, I had to make lamb. I’ve only ever cooked lamb twice, once was an accident many many years ago, and once was to make gyros. I’d never made a rack of lamb, or leg of lamb, or anything like that. But there I was, standing at the meat counter at our local Fresh Market, buying a beautiful boneless leg of lamb.
I brought it home and made an herb rub with olive oil, lemon juice, fresh marjoram and thyme, salt, pepper, and lemon rind. Ninety minutes at 400°F made for a delicious-smelling dinner.

In the same 400° oven, I roasted some brussels sprouts in one pan, and in another, peeled parsnips and apples. A quick puree with a tablespoon of butter made for a nutty and sweet side dish, slightly reminiscent of the amazing parsnip/apple puree we enjoyed at Chez Panisse. The color was off, but I think its just because I roasted the veggies.

Sorry about the lack of an actual recipe, but really, it was just procedure… and truly amazing smells and tastes!
And the lamb? It’s part of the reason that I’m not one who “doesn’t eat no meat.”

Now, I need to enlist your help: you’re all a bunch of intelligent people, and someone I know is in dire need of cheering up. Please use the comment section to tell your favorite funny story, tell your favorite joke (inappropriate as it may be!), share the link to a funny picture, whatever you may choose!
I’ll make it worth your while!!!
Have a great Thursday!

Hi Mara,

You may be sorry you asked….but here goes….

Two cannibals are eating a clown….one says to the other “Does this taste funny to you?”

(that would be sourced to my 7 year old nephew)

Hope that at least brought a smile (or groan) to the person needing some cheer!!! Take care.

Oh, how I love that movie! That was pretty much every wedding and funeral growing up.

We love lamb. Our butcher has ground lamb and I make lamburgers using my own homemade gyros seasoning for the crust. They are not low fat. But they are scrumptious.

When I need a smile – I was this video.

In the middle… it just stirs my spirit and I find it heart-warming. (Be sure to watch at full screen at 720.)

Enjoy!

Here’s a laugh….Russell Peters can never fail to make me smile. Hopefully he can do the same for your friend. This is my favorite bit of his.

Mara, your dinner looks wonderful. I have to make roasted brussel sprouts soon.
A friend sent me this joke the other day; I laughed so hard I had tears rolling down my face. I hope it brings a smile to your friend~
I urgently needed a few days off work, but, I knew the boss would not allow me to take time off. I thought that maybe if I acted “Crazy”, then he would tell me to take a few days off. So, I hung upside-down on the ceiling and made funny noises.
My co-worker (a blonde) asked me what I was doing. I told her that I was pretending to be a light bulb, so, that the boss might think I was “Crazy” and give me a few days off.
A few minutes later the boss came into the office and asked, “What in the world are you doing?” I told him I was a light bulb.
He said, “You are clearly stressed out.” Go home and rest for a couple of days.” I jumped down and walked out of the office.
When my co-worker (the blonde) followed me, the boss asked her, “..And
where do you think you’re going?”
She said, “I’m going home, too. I can ‘t work in the dark”.

I’m one of those peeps that “don’t eat no meat!” so I will just share with you something funny that happened to me today.
While I was driving sitting at a stop light I was watching these two prairie dogs sitting on their holes having like a barking contest or something. They seemed to be very into their argument bouncing and barking at each other anyways, here in Colorado we are VERY WINDY lately…while watching them do their thing a big gust of wind came and knocked one of them right on his lil ass and he kinda just laid there on his back stunned. I swear to the heavens that the other one was laughing! as was I because he sat there and was just kinda wiggling watching him. Anyways, it made me laugh my ass off today and lately I take the few smiles that I can get (tough times). Hope you and your friend can find some humor today, go stare at an animal and I am sure they will do something to make you smile. :)
