This week seems to be about rediscovering old favorite recipes. First was split pea soup, which I made for the first time over two years ago. Then, white chicken chili which, with its plethora of beans made for an extremely satisfying lunch today. And tonight?
Tonight brought something back from a dear friend, who I miss terribly. This whole being a grown up with responsibilities stinks sometimes.
So dinner?
Gliding Calm baked tofu with (ironically) roasted brussels sprouts with bacon. Yup, bacon and tofu. Even Adam ate the sprouts… so that means they were awesome. And the entire meal was South Beach Diet friendly, and great for Phase 1!
The brussels sprouts were simply roasted with olive oil, garlic powder, and salt, then sprinkled with crispy cooked bacon. Yes, tofu and bacon. I know.
Also, please notice that the mysterious black shadow that’s been plaguing my photos is gone. What, you didn’t notice? Now you will:
Apparently, a curse of having multiple pets, cute as they may be, is hair EVERYWHERE. That shadow was a dog hair, folded up and smashed, and living quite happily on my camera’s sensor. I’d cleaned every lens, mirror, eyepiece…everything. So I thought. For you DSLR owners: every once in a while, set your camera to “manual sensor cleaning mode”, take off your lens, and use canned air to blow dust off of your sensor. Your photos will thank you.
See?
Maybe that’s why Foodgawker and Tastespotting say my photos have “lighting issues”. Hmm…
On another note: What would you all think about another crochet tutorial? I know this is a food and cooking blog, but I’ve been spending a lot of my time crocheting bulky infinity scarves for just about everyone I know. Do you want to learn how to make one?
Happy almost Friday!

YAY! You figured out what that spot was! I can’t believe it was hair! lol. Glad you got it fixed.
I think you should totally do a crochet tutorial. If you think it wouldn’t fit on your food blog, you could maybe do like Gina and create a separate category…or possibly make it special content for Facebook friends?

I had a very similar shadow on my camera that was recently lost, probably a dog hair as well considering they are EVERYWHERE ’round these here parts! And I would LOVE a crocheting tutorial!

Consider it done
Try that manual cleaning thing…it works wonders!
Unfortunately mine was a point and shoot (as is its replacement), so I have no idea what I’d do to clean it! It’s on the agenda to save for a DSLR though

mmm brussels and bacon. My favorite food of all time.
I used to order veggie burgers with bacon. So tofu and bacon makes sense to me!

Brussel sprouts look tasty…everything is better with bacon…and sometimes tofu!
I would love a crochet tutorial…I’m in that “weird nesting phase-must-do something with my hands when I’m plopped on a couch or dreaming of foods that I shouldn’t be eating and resisting the urge to buy everything on etsy and just make it for myself”….so yeah. I would love a tutorial!!!!!!!
I am currently obsessed with brussel sprouts. Great idea using garlic powder! I bet onion powder and fresh garlic are delicious too.
