Is anyone else totally loving this lighter later thing!? I think it’s just fantastic! There’s something about having 4 hours of daylight after work instead of less than one that makes the afternoon so much more bearable!
Adam and I had a lot of grocery shopping to do today since we made a fairly big decision on Saturday evening. I debated sharing this with all of you, but figured that you’d figure it out anyway. So here goes. After giving the paleo plan a good solid 5 weeks and not losing or keeping off a pound, we’re both going back to what we know works: Weight Watchers. We’re using online tools, having our own meetings, and keeping each other accountable. Adam’s going to count Points while I’m going back to what worked for me the first time I lost weight: the no-count “Core” plan. So our fridge went from being nearly empty to this:
And we’re not done yet! There’s another trip to the produce market to go, and a full produce rack on the counter as well. We’re really going to do this full out! I just couldn’t handle the ZERO carbs, high fat and protein Paleo plan, and the nightmares of a heart attack were getting to me… so here I am, back where I’m comfortable.
I know I’m “flip flopping” a lot, but with both of us in the house following similar eating plans, this will actually work, I just know it!
After our massive grocery shop, we were both ravenous… so to Chipotle we went! I got a bowl with chicken, black beans, salsa, guac, and lettuce.
Now, before all you Judgy McJudgersons get up in my shiz with the “How can you be eating Chipotle and still saying that you’re on Weight Watchers and trying to lose weight?” I’m going to explain: I’ve done loads of research on Chipotle. Without rice, cheese, sour cream, or the oil-doused fajita vegetables, the nutritionals are almost identical to what I’d make at home. So why eat it out? Well, because sometimes, food tastes so much better when someone else makes it! My mom always said that salad “out” is so much better than salad “in” because someone else does the chopping. That’s SO TRUE with burrito bowls too!
I’ve had a few packages of fun stuff sent to me (FTC READ THIS) to try as samples, and I’m excited to share them with you! Let’s work backwards, shall we? About a week ago, I was sent a box containing this:
That would be 10 different kinds of dried chile peppers and 2 kinds of vanilla beans! Marx Foods sent them to me to try, and to carry in my OpenSky shop… so more news on that soon! If you have any ideas for me for these amazing-looking chiles, please let me know. I’m kind of at a loss!
Then, on Friday I got two jars of salsa that were recommended to me by my friend Jessica. She was traveling, and tried this stuff at her friend’s, and fell in love. She and I tend to have very similar taste, and she said I NEEDED to find the stuff, or contact the company to try it. So contact them I did, and the OWNER of the company contacted me back, and offered up samples. So, expect to see a recipe with White Girl Salsa soon!
And last but not least, today, I got home to a VERY generous package from everyone’s favorite boyfriend protein powder, Jay Robb!
In case you can’t tell what that all is, it’s a reusable shopping bag which was filled with a shaker (complete with whisk ball) and sample packages (3 each!) of their whey protein powder in all their flavors (chocolate, vanilla, piña colada, strawberry, and dreamsicle), 3 JayBars in various flavors which Adam will review for you, and a fabulous Bedazzled Jay Robb tank top! I love that Beth at JayRobb actually read my blog, looked at pictures, and knew to send me an XL tank top. Thanks Beth and Jay Robb! I’ll try all these in coming breakfasts and keep you all posted.
In other news, I’m a Guest Bender today on Jenn’s blog! Check out my chili story there… and a happy 2nd blogger anniversary to Jenn! Love you girlie!
I promise I’ll have a recipe for you tomorrow, I just wanted to get all of this out there before I completely forgot! Have a great Tuesday!

Good for you Mara! You need to do what works best for you and what makes you happy. I love that you are NEVER in any way trying to promote your own personal tactics by saying “everyone should do this” rather, “this is what works for me and makes me feel good, so I am going to embrace it!” That is what being healthy is all about my dear.
I 100% support you no matter what you choose. You know I think you are beautiful strong and amazing no matter what!!!!

just my 2 cents… you should REALLY REALLY REALLY stick out the paleo plan. there is not anything healthier in the whole entire world than that plan. and WHY ON THIS BEEEAUTIFUL GREEN EARTH would you go “zero carb” on paleo…not ONE group of our ancestors ate a zero carb diet. have you checked out Mark’s Daily Apple website or forum… really really i stress you should stick with paleo!!!!!

Hey girl! I think that finding what works for you in MOST important. I always tell all my clients that they do not need be on a “diet” because that insinuates a beginning and an end. We are not wanting a beginning and end to healthy eating. So before starting ANY program I make my clients ask themselves this question: Is it sustainable and can I eat this way for the REST OF MY LIFE. If the answer is no then don’t bother (and usually that means the “diet” is WAY TOO restrictive) If the answer is yes then congratulations…you are well on your way to creating healthy lifestyle habits that will help you be successful for years to come!

How will you know what works if you don’t give different things a try? I wish I knew what worked for me! I also wish I could get Husband to agree to some kind of weight loss effort along with me. Sounds like you are all set.

I’ve never commented before, but have to say that I was seriously happy to hear you say you are going back to WW! IMO it basically just teaches you how to make the most healthy choices. It’s the most well rounded plan out there – there’s a reason it’s been around for ages – it really works
You’re going to be soooo happy you came back!

I loved the Core plan when I was on WW. I should look into doing it again. We could support each other. I’ve got about 30-40 lbs to go.
That chipotle burrito bowl looks sooo good! I live within walking distance of a chipotle.
