Super Soft (Giveaway Post)

by Mara @ What's For Dinner? on February 23, 2010

in contest/giveaway, giveaway

It’s a rare thing around here when there’s a non-food-related giveaway… as a matter of fact, I don’t know that I’ve ever done one! BUT, when SkinMD Natural contacted me about their Shielding Lotion, I was intrigued.

One of the worst parts about cooking is the cleanup, right? The last thing I want to do after cooking a meal and using every pan in the kitchen is clean every pan in the kitchen…partially because I hate doing dishes and usually ask Adam to do it, and partially because I absolutely HATE what dishwater does to my hands.

Enter: SkinMD Natural Shielding Lotion. This stuff is AMAZING. (Just an FYI for the FTC: SkinMD Natural sent me this sample to test, and I didn’t get any compensation to do this review.) My skin is horrendous on my hands. I work in a school with old-school (ha! pun!) boiler heating, my hands are constantly in water while I’m cooking, and its always ridiculously dry in Chicago every winter. My hands were verging on gray there was so much dry skin! No matter how many manicures I get, every winter my hands look the same. After ONE application of the Shielding Lotion, the color in my hands returned. After 5 or 6 applications, I could actually feel a consistent difference in the texture of my skin. Two applications on my elbows brought me normal-colored elbows instead of the ashy nastiness I usually had. One application on my face got rid of the flakiness on my forehead I get in the winter.

Ah, first comment. These never win, but I’ll give it a shot anyways….

I found this fact very interesting…

A Shielding Lotion is far more effective as a dry skin treatment than conventional moisturizing lotions or protective creams. If you suffer from dry skin, you know that just using a moisturizing lotion doesn’t solve the problem.

Never knew that Shielding lotions were so wonderful! :)

Thanks girl for this awesome giveaway.

“A shielding lotion keeps moisture-robbing irritants away from the skin while the proprietary “super” humectants hydrate the skin throughout the day.”
I thought this was very interesting… I like how it keeps moisture-robbing irritants away rather than just replenishing moisture to your skin…

I neeeeeeeeeed ;D this bottle of lotion bc having my hands in water almost all day long either cooking or cleaning leaves my hands SO. DRY. I normally moisturize after said activities and then within minutes find myself washing off the lotion I just put on.
Would be sweeeeet if I could only put it on once !!

I have psoriasis and i didn’t realize a shielding lotion would help! Plus i’ve never seen a shielding lotion in stores.
I also work in the food industry and i’m forever washing my hands which leaves them cracked and raw!! I would love to have a chance to use Skin MD

And last but not least – I need it b/c I’m in the same exact boat as you! It seems I always have a job or hobby where I need to wash my hands 800 times a day and add that w/ this Chicago weather and my skin = bad shape!

Yay, giveaways!

I learned that the skin is permeable by external irritants, and that Skin MD Natural can act as a barrier to these irritants.

(At the podium…) I am the best candidate to receive the free bottle of Skin MD Natural for the following reasons:

1. to test the theory of contaminants entering the body through the skin. I swim, so the chlorine depletes my natural barriers.

2. My skin is reeeeeeaaallllly dry.

3. My skin is reeeeeeaaallllly sensitive.

4. I believe in rainbows and world peace for all.

Thank you. Vote for Tamara Lea!

Hi Mara! I like the idea of this lotion a lot…all natural ingredients…and what it has done for your skin!! From their site, I thought it was interesting that the lotion doesn’t just cover the top layer of skin but becomes the top layer while allowing the layers underneath to breathe.

Pick me! Pick me!!

I found it interesting that this lotion provides results for many skin conditions due to medical conditions. I have always suffered with dry skin due to hypothyrodism. I am always searching for the best products for my skin since I am prone to extreme.

I learned that something like a shielding lotion actually exists. What a great idea! Of course your hands can’t get as dry if the stuff that makes them dry doesn’t even have access to your skin!

I am thrilled to learn that the Shielding Lotion works on acne-prone skin. I, too, live in the Chicagoland area and suffer greatly during winter ~ between the cold, cold outdoors and the drying effects of indoor heat. I wash dishes, work with alot of paper at work (which just sucks up moisture in my hands) and box, so I am constantly trying to add moisture and hydration to my rugged looking hands and fingernails, not to mention rough heels! I would love to give this a shot!!!

I need this for the same reason that I need those GORGEOUS Kate Spade kitten heels I saw at Neiman’s the other day…I WANNA FEEL LIKE A LADY. And let’s face it, nothing says “lady” like smooth skin. My hands get so horribly dry in the winter that NOTHING helps. Washing dishes only makes it worse. I’ve tried everything from L’Occitane and Kiehl’s to Eucerin and Cetaphil. It’s useless. Please restore my faith in lotion.

I didn’t realize that glycerin was the standard moisturizing ingredient. this MN winter has been far to cold and long! I would love some great lotion :)

What I learned:

Wow! Who knew that “over the counter” moisturizers can actually work against your efforts by sending “a signal to the moisture producing parts of your skin that enough moisture is present.” Apparently all that lotion I am slatering on is really making my skin makes LESS natural moisture, so not helping me with my dry skin problem at all. :( BUMMER.

Shielding Lotions enhance the skin’s own natural protective abilities by turning the outer layer of skin into what could be described as a hydrating invisible shield .
