Local Support (Giveaway Post)

Before I get to today’s post, I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who emailed, concerned that I hadn’t posted yesterday! To be honest, Adam and I went out for a quick dinner after getting our marriage license (!!!!!) and I just wasn’t feelin’ it by the time we got home. I would rather write you all great posts when I feel like writing rather than lousy posts when I don’t!

Tonight we went to Asian Noodle House, again, after our final meeting with our Rabbi before the wedding! BUT, never fear, I do have something great for you!

I got an email last week from Jay, a representative from Red Gold Tomatoes, wondering if I would be willing to post about a fantastic contest they’re holding for local Chicago high schools. Since I love Red Gold tomatoes, and their beautiful label art, I of course, agreed, and I got the information about the contest, which I’ll pass on to you:

ORESTES, IN – High school sports are an important part of many families and communities. Red Gold, producer of premium quality canned tomatoes and tomato-based products today announces its “Feed Your School Spirit” contest for Chicago-area high schools.
Red Goldis proud to be a third generation company built on family values with a focus on community, including our own hometown football programs,” says Greg Metzger, director of marketing for Red Gold. “It’s a natural fit for Red Gold to get involved in activities enjoyed by the families and communities where our quality tomato products are sold.”
The contest is simple: the Chicago-area high school that gathers the most Red Gold School Spirit points from September 14 through November 30, 2009, has a chance to win $5,000 for their sports program.
There are three ways to earn the school spirit points in the program:
1. Sign up for the Tomato Country e-newsletter at http://www.redgold.com/Chicago . By signing up for recipes and special offers, you can designate one point towards the local high school of your choice.
2. Mail in Red Gold tomato product labels. For every label mailed back (see address below), we will designate one point towards your designated high school (must include UPC barcode).
3. Mail a vote to Red Gold. Hand print your full name, complete home address, city, state, zip code and the eligible school, city and state it is located in on a 3 x 5 note card and mail to the address below:

Just check out the Red Gold website. Then, Jay offered to send me a tomato “kit” with a few cans of tomatoes and a recipe book. I of course agreed, as I love their products. When the mailman left me a package last Saturday, I was delighted to open it and find this inside:

Then I opened it. Please excuse the ninja weapons in the background, I promise they’re strictly decorative:

In case you can’t tell what all that is, it is: 3 cans of different varieties of Red Gold tomatoes, Red Gold magnets, a jar opener, soup recipes, a cookbook, and an authentic die-cut model of a 1940s Red Gold delivery truck, all wrapped up in the ginormous Red Gold can.

Jay ALSO offered TWO lucky What’s For Dinner readers the chance to win their very own Red Gold tomato kit! I’m going to make it super simple to enter: Just leave a comment below! There are also a couple bonus ways to enter:
  1. *Tweet about the giveaway “RT @imadedinner: Red Gold tomatoes rock!” Then leave a new comment to tell me you’ve tweeted.
  2. *Leave a new comment with your favorite use of tomatoes.
