Not Weird. Different!

Another fairy visited me today! The lovely Crofter’s Organics people sent me some of their SuperFruits Jam to sample, and I’m so excited! I’d won jars of this great jam in a giveaway by Eating Bird Food months ago, but I really didn’t get a chance to enjoy them. I’m fully intending on using each of these jams in oats over the next few days!

The fruits are really interesting, including wild blueberries, cranberries, morello cherries, maqui, passionfruit, raspberries, yumberries, black currants and pomegranate. Each spread hails from a different continent, and they are 100% organic. I’m SO excited!
In other news, I found this at the organic market while I was waiting for my tire to get fixed after yesterday’s incident:

It was the first time I’d seen them in my area, and of course I had to try one. The flavor was IDENTICAL to a PB&J sandwich, but the texture was a little dry… but not enough so to stop me from buying these again! The lady at the store said she’d even get me a case if I wanted.
While I ate my bar and waited for my car (hey, that rhymes!), I talked to the lovely VeggieGirl. I am lucky enough to have developed a real-life friendship with her, and we chatted about blogs, school, random car stuff, and of course food. She was telling me about her latest favorite, and in her words “Holy Yum Delicious” combination, and she suggested I try it.
What was this combo? It sounds odd at first… but upon thinking about it, made a lot of sense. Sweet potato and avocado. Weird, right? I hesitated to put the combo on my plate with my teriyaki tofu… but I did it:

It was a delicious ripe avocado, and a super-sweet garnet yam… so I went for it. I took a piece of the avocado and some of the sweet potato, and was absolutely amazed by how delicious the combination was! The creaminess of the avocado along with the sweetness of the potato went together like they were meant to be. I immediately texted VeggieGirl to tell her how amazing it was! I suggest you ALL try this combo ASAP. Seriously. I don’t rave about things easily, and this was quite possibly the most surprising and delicious thing I’ve tasted in a LONG time!
There’s a HUGE giveaway happening here tomorrow, so make sure you come back and check it out! Trust me, this is the biggest giveaway I’ve ever done (well, except foodie jewelry)!
Have a great Wednesday!

Interesting combination. I would never have thought of it. I love avacados and sweet potatoes but I would never have eaten them together.

I love that combo together – it’s especially good in quesadillas! I’ve tried those 2 with and w/o black beans, and it’s def. a winner!

Those jams look awsome! I’m not sure what to think of sweet potato + avocado… I don’t really like either plain.

Looking forward to your giveaway tomorrow!

Ooh can’t wait to see about the giveaway! I think sweet potatoes and avocado would go well together…but kind of in the “things that taste good will taste good together” that works for most things but not, say, BBQ sauce and ice cream :-D

I totally agree. Avacaod and sweet potato make a beautiful pairing of flavors. The textures are so creamy and smooth together.

Can’t wait for the awesome giveaway!

I think that dinner looks sooo good! Ideal, in fact! I love finding fun cobinations of things that taste good together. I found the same thing with SP + black beans + salsa. Sounds weird but it’s really good together.
Mara, I would love for you to make me dinner! ;)

What fun to receive those great gifts to try out! Looks like great jams.
Sweet potatoes are really hard to come by here, but if I do see them somewhere I might give this a try!

Those jams are great! I bought some while in Buffalo only to realize when I got home that the company is 2 hours down the road from me! DOH! Enjoy!

I am going to try this on the weekend. I love both but never would have thought to pair the two. If this is good as you say it will join a few other wonderful combos like mango salsa, chocolate dipped pretzels and my sisters “famous”cheese ball as things that are better than the sum of their parts. I can’t wait to try it. (Plus I’m always looking for an excuse to eat avocado).

Oh me too girl! I LOVE avocados and will eat them at any time I can. Heck, I’ve even had an avocado milkshake! Try strawberries with sour cream and brown sugar too :)

I am so jealous!! I’ve been wanting to try the Crofter’s Superfruit spread since I discovered it in my Whole Foods in town! I keep waiting until I’m down with the jam that I already have so I can buy it!

And avocado and sweet potatoes are two of my favoriteeees. Yum!
