Happy Monday all! While I’m exhausted after the day we had today, it was so much fun, I’m ok with it! We spent the day here:

Nothing like a water park!
Doing a lot of playing and splashing here:

fun stuff!
What is it about a day spent swimming/playing in water that just drains me so much?? It’s a good thing I had dinner plans with a coworker from school for dinner, because I was in NO mood to cook. We met at the Chili’s up the street and I had their guiltless black bean burger with broccoli.

Definitely not as good as my recipe!

All this parmesan made me think of Miss Gliding Calm!
Then, my favorite part of going to Chili’s: their shot glass desserts! I got a mini key lime pie dessert, and it was *just* enough.

You all know how much I love tiny food!
I did realize something while I was out to dinner with my friend… it really wasn’t the food that was fun; it was the company! I’m proud of my decision to get the bean burger rather than the more caloric and fat-laden entree I was thinking about. It made me annoyed though too, because I could’ve made that SAME meal for fewer calories and fat grams, and it would’ve tasted better… though the restaurant was a better meeting point. I need to keep in the forefront of my mind that EVERY meal is not an event! My birthday dinner, sure… but not just a dinner out with a coworker! How do you keep your eating in check with meals out that are NOT events?
I’m looking forward to visiting Steve tomorrow! Have a great Tuesday!

Parm whatt what!!!

I feel like that when I go out a lot too. Like why am I paying for this, when I could have it better at home. Normally I keep it healthy at restaurants as much as possible, unless it is an anniversary or my birthday. Then I might splurge some.

I had the same convo with myself tonight as I contemplated a sweet potato for about the 8th night in a row. I said, “Sarah, this is NOT your last meal. You can have a sweet potato tomorrow.”
Not that there’s anything wrong with a sweet potato, but a girl’s gotta switch things up.
Me…not such a big fan of the water parks.

You are so right! Seems like every get together these days revolves around the food instead of the company. What a great mindset you have!
I love water parks!

I think the mini dessert was fine for a night out
I bet your burgers were better though, just from looking!

That water resort looks like it would be pure heaven for kids!
The meal you choose looks fabulous. I am the same way as you, though , in that I get annoyed knowing I could make it better….and cheaper!!

tiny desserts are so fun
turning eating out into an event is SO easy to do, especially when you don’t go out very often anyways. I just try to remember that this isn’t the ONLY time I’ll be able to go there or order this, etc.

Mara, you are getting down to the problem of weight loss/control. In a place like Chili’s it is hard to find something low in fat. I usually order a salad without fried stuff or cheese and ask for oil and vinegar on the side. Eating healthy is a daily choice, almost a battle, but if it is a non event I would be watchful of what I eat and not eat the whole portion! Why ruin your progress on a meal that isn’t all that great? Enjoy the company, and don’t overeat! You will reap the rewards of the good choices you make.

when eating out, I try to do exactly what you did – just make the best choice possible and concentrate on the company!

I actually love their black beans! Or I used to. Glad you had good company, that definitely makes a meal!

We don’t eat out often, but when we do I usually have a coupon or we try to do a night that has a special, etc. That usually has limited options, so I’m kind of stuck w/ those.
I do get annoyed at the prices of stuff eating out, but the specials and coupons help. If it is something that I feel is more of an “event” like birthday, anniversary, etc. and I want to splurge I try to just focus on portion control. I can bring a doggie bag home, or it’s ok to not finish an unhealthy side. Everything in moderation!

I LOVE WATERPARKS! They make me feel like I am 10 years old again. It’s about time to make the trek to ours this year…
It’s not on the guiltless menu, but my favorite thing is their chicken fajita pita and sub the fries for broccoli. It’s only about 450ish calories. Their guiltless chicken sandwich isn’t so bad either. However, their meat tastes super processed and I think we make better stuff at home. The burger actually looks really good to me right now. Think I need a snack…
The way I get over it is I realize this is not my last meal out ever. I can come back another day and get something else (unless I really can’t aka vacation or something – in which case I’ll let myself splurge). And I will feel MUCH better later if I get something healthy than if I get the 2000 calorie thing calling my name. Or I’ll do something like you did – have a healthy dinner but also get a desert. Or have a healthy entree and an unhealthy side and eat half of it.

This happens to me too. I ordered a salad at a deli awhile ago and had to make myself something better when I got home.

I always drink a big glass of water when I sit down at a restaurant. It helps with the initial “I want everything” hunger! I will always splurge a little; your shot glass dessert is perfect for that!

Love the key lime dessert! I’m not always the best at restaurants. But I always try to ensure that I have leftovers. I split or third the plate at the beginning of the meal.
