What an eventful day! I was so nervous all day that no one would like the charms we designed… but apparently I was wrong! There was a huge response on KathEats and EatingBender, and a great response on here too! There’s still one more blog that will be giving away a charm… keep your eyes open!
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Go to this post and enter to win the incredibly cool foodie charms my dad and I designed! If you don’t want to wait, you can order the charms for $7 a piece as either a cell phone charm/zipper pull by emailing orders@imadedinner.net. In your email, include which charm or charms you would like, and what you would like them hanging on. You’ll then receive an email from me through PayPal. I’ll ship your charms for FREE to the U.S. and for $3 to Canada! You have until June 1 to enter the contest, and until the 80 charms I have are gone! Winners will be announced in my June 1 dinner post.
And a clarification: you do not HAVE to write a haiku! Just leave a comment with your favorite charm and you’re entered!! The other 2 methods are for EXTRA entries! Don’t let the haiku scare you!
Now, onto dinner… can you guess, by the title, where we went??
SWEET TOMATOES!
I had a bit of a victory there tonight. Usually, I take what I want, eat whatever’s there, and leave completely stuffed. Tonight? I ate most of my salad that had fat free Italian dressing on it:
Then, I got a small bowl of their low-fat vegetarian chili, with about a tablespoon of sour cream and some shredded cheese, and some bite-sized pieces of pepperoni focaccia:
While I was getting my soup, I noticed that there was a creamy bruschetta pasta that looked AMAZING. I got myself about 1/2 cup of it:
I was completely underwhelmed by the pasta, so rather than eating it anyway, I STOPPED EATING IT! I had one and a half bites. That was it. Next, my favorite part of any meal at Sweet Tomatoes: dessert! Since it’s strawberry month there, the featured dessert was a strawberry apple crumble that I topped with some of the non-fat soft serve:
Again, I took a few bites, and really enjoyed the crumble topping with the bits of fruit, but a bigger bite of the fruit “goo” revealed that it was way too sweet. So what did I do? I picked the rest of the crumble topping out, and left the rest of it there! Amazing! Usually, I’m super full after a meal there, and tonight I was full but comfortable.
I do have my weigh in tomorrow morning… but I’ve stopped having number expectations. I had a good week, enjoyed the treats I wanted to in small amounts, and did some serious exercise. I WILL NOT DEFINE MYSELF BY THE NUMBER ON A BOX OF SPRINGS!
Don’t forget (as if you could) to enter the foodie charm giveaway, come back tomorrow for Cute Food Saturday, and have a great night!

I was just telling Maggie today how much I am craving Sweet Tomatoes. Mark my words, we’ll be going at some point this weekend.
I love your sassafrass attitude with the scale. I look up to you so much!

Hubby LOVES Sweet Tomatoes. His favorites are the chili and the dessert (actually the dessert toppings to be exact.)
Good luck with the weigh in. You are so right: a number does not define you! Have a great weekend. I can’t wait for Cute Food Saturday…

i’ve never been to a sweet tomatoes, but it sounds so good every time you talk about it!
and go you with your scale-talk! you’re eating based on comfort and satisfaction, and that’s what counts. way to devote yourself to the foods that taste best!

Love it, Mara! I usually go a little nuts at that place too, (I think in Cali it’s called Souplantation?) so I really appreciate and admire your approach with it on thie trip!

I love that place, but have always been underwhelmed with the pasta section – you think the mac n cheese looks good, but it has no flavor!

I miss that place (it was Soup Plantation in San Diego). We have Fresh Choice and Souper Salad out here in Austin, which are good, but I have fond memories of that place!
And what a great attitude! Sometimes the scale doesn’t cooperate even if you’ve been good, and that’s no reason to get discouraged. If you keep doing the right things, even if the scale doesn’t go down this week, it will go down eventually!
