On Monday, Lizz emailed me during the day, and asked me what I was doing Friday night. I’d just found out that Adam was working, so I said “nothing, why?” Apparently, she had a conference to present at starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, and the company was paying for her to get a hotel room, so she asked if I wanted to “come over and play.” Of course I said YES! And we made the plans to get together tonight.
I got a phone call around 6 p.m. that Lizz was on her way to her hotel, so I should leave my house to meet up with her. Awesome! I hit the road (all of a 25 minute drive) and met up with Lizz in the parking lot of the hotel. I helped her in with all her stuff, and the usual consistent talking and tangential conversations
We eventually decided, once our stomachs started eating themselves, to figure out what to do for dinner. (Notice, we decided to figure it out, not that we decided where to go…which resulted in another half hour of chatting.) Eventually, we made the decision to, rather than going out, we’d just eat at the hotel restaurant. It was surprisingly affordable, and the menu looked pretty good. Of course, we had to take the obligatory self-portrait in the ridiculously over-pillowed hotel bed (That’s what she said).
We stared at the menu at the hotel restaurant for a while, and went back and forth over what to get. As usual, the two of us were both trying to decide between the same two things. So what did we do? We ordered both and shared! What were our meals you might ask?
Fish and chips with house made tartar sauce (I had 1 and a half pieces of fish and maybe 6 fries!)
Super gourmet meatloaf with Yukon gold mashed potatoes and “What’s up doc” carrots (I had half the meatloaf, a bit of the potatoes and of course, 2 carrots)
The waitress brought our check, and when we put our cash in the envelope, we noticed something odd. There was one of each kind of bill. So of course, at the same time, both Lizz and I decided to be complete nerds and do this:
Yup. Thats what happens when nerds are bored and full. If only we’d had a Sacajawea dollar… oh well… next time! We went back up to her room (that’s what she said) and talked for a good hour before we were both too tired, and I headed home. Both of us have to get up early!
Tomorrow is an exciting day! My mom, stepdad, sister, and my mom’s best friend and I are heading to Chicago’s Green City Market to go to a book signing by the one and only Alice Waters! I’m excited for that, and almost as excited to shop a farmer’s market for the first time this year!
Make sure you come back tomorrow for Cute Food Saturday AND a Green City Market recap!
Have a great night!

Oh fish & chips…my frenemy. They are so tasty, but cause me such pain later on. The meatloaf meal looks really great though, and how can you not love the way they have presented the carrots!
Sound like a great evening with your friend
