Today was my family’s Passover seder, and it’s almost 11 p.m. and I’m exhausted, but I wanted to share all the photos of the food I took tonight… my mom really outdid herself with her amazing cooking, and hosting 20 people at her house for dinner!
The word “Seder” means “order”, so the Passover seder is a meal that’s eaten with special ceremony and order each year to commemerate the Jews’ being freed from slavery in Egypt. You can read the whole story here. Ok, so it’s a kid’s version of the story, but it gets the point across.
It was particularly fun this year because I brought a friend with me who had never been to a seder before, and she got to see my family’s goofy version as her first one! We really are a raucous bunch, and I hope she had as good a time as I did! Thanks SO MUCH for coming! HUGS!
Without further adieu, I bring you our Passover seder, in pictures:
- This book contains the service that preceeds the meal
- Each little thing on this plate represents something, including the Peep, but that’s just our family!
- the unleavened bread we eat for the week of Passover
- I made this apple concoction that represents mortar used to build the pyramids. It had apples, nuts, cinnamon, dried apricots and dried cherries
- Gefilte fish, a Passover tradition, is like a fish dumpling
- Mom’s amazingly perfect chicken soup with matzah balls
- My mom’s friend made a roasted tomato and mozzarella salad
- My servings of the first course, the salad in the front is eggs and potatoes, a family Passover staple called “cement”
- My dinner plate with steamed asparagus, more “cement”, and brisket
- 2 tier dessert tray with chocolate-lemon French macaroons on top (made by my sister) and chocolate dipped macaroons and toffee on the bottom
- I made a strawberry salad with toasted almonds and orange juice
- My dessert plate, complete with a dark chocolate flourless cake made by Aunt Dori
I’m beat, and I gotta get my beauty sleep for my Foodie Fun Date with Jenn! I’m SO EXCITED! I’m off tomorrow, so I’m going to try to get up early for a Jazzercise class or a walk… we’ll see how that goes.

Aw, I love all the pictures! It definitely looks like a fun night – and your strawberry salad sounds simply scrumptious.
I am SO pumped, Mara!! See you sooooooooon

Mmm now I can’t wait for charoset and brisket at my seder! And choc covered macaroons are my FAV…I doubt we’ll have them as no one in my crew makes desserts (well except me and I don’t have time) so we’ll probably just have the ones from the can. SO not the same.
