beyond happy that today was Friday! After work today, I took a field trip to my favorite nail place and got my nails done… 2 of them have very cool racing-stripe-type designs on them now! I also purchased something that made me very very happy. Victoria’s Secret had CHICAGO CUBS SWEATPANTS! How could I not buy them? Our home opener is ONE WEEK FROM MONDAY!!!
I got home and it was increasingly obvious that it was most definitely not sushi Friday today. For some reason, while I kind of wanted sushi, I was really in the mood for something else. Adam and I drove around for literally a half hour up and down the main streets around here, passing DOZENS of restaurants that were possibilities (Don’t worry, we have a Prius!) For some reason, nothing struck my fancy until Adam suggested (for probably the 3rd time) that we try the Greek place we drive past all the time. Suddenly, my mind was full of lemon-oregano chicken, tangy feta, flaming cheese and honey-coated desserts. Yup. Greek food was the genre of the evening.
We walked into the Greek Village Taverna and were suddenly transported to Greece. (Cue the excessive My Big Fat Greek Wedding jokes) There were huge urns everywhere, white stucco, false balconies and grape arbors, and gorgeous mosaics. I forgot my camera, so the pictures today are quite sub-par because they were taken on my phone in odd light. There are a bunch, so you get to see the gallery view.
- Greek Restaurant scenery, yes, we were indoors!
- Crusty sesame-coated egg bread
- Taramosalata, a potato and fish roe spread for bread
- Greek salad with authentic dressing and fresh feta
- My spanakopita, a spinach, feta, and onion filled phyllo pastry, served with a potato quarter and (uneaten) rice
- Adam’s shrimp and broccoli pasta with garlic and olive oil
- A blurry bite of spanakopita (no, I wasn’t drinking!)
- Galaktoburko, a phyllo-wrapped milk custard with a lemon-honey sauce. It tasted like a donut!
All in all, a great dinner! The service was quick (which was good, since I had gone into the “so hungry I’m crabby” mode, which I definitely inherited from my dad!) We’ll definitely be going back, but we’ll share an appetizer, ONE entree and the dessert. I brought half of my Spanakopita home!
QOTD: What’s your favorite genre/nationality of food? Obviously, mine is sushi, but Mexican or other Latin food comes a close second.
Meghann‘s Blogger Bake Sale will be on April 6! I’m donating 4 (count ‘em, 4) loaves of challah that could be yours!! Don’t remember what they look like? Here’s a little refresher:
Seeds? No seeds? Some seeds? 2 kinds of seeds? YOU DECIDE!
You know you want to bid on them on the 6th… the money goes to a great cause!
I also just found out that I will have a guest post on the FANTASTIC site, MizFitOnline! MizFit is an absolute inspiration, and has the BEST arms I think I’ve ever seen on a woman (Sorry Miz, I’m a HUGE fan of Tyson Beckford’s arms!) I’m beyond honored to have a post on her site on APRIL 9!

Pretty much all Asian food ranks up there in my top cuisines. Which is fortunate for me, since we have an abundance of excellent Asian restaurants on the West Coast.
