Rabbit Rabbit!

No, I didn’t have rabbit for dinner, even though Kelsey talked about it earlier! Ever since my sister was little and a teacher told her that it was good luck to say “Rabbit Rabbit” first thing on the first day of a new month, I’ve made it a point to do just that! Have any of you heard of that superstition?

I was also remembering today about all the different crazy pranks my mom used to play on my sister and I when we were little. Ones I remembered:

  • My mom would make something that smelled delicious for breakfast to bring my sister and I down from upstairs for breakfast. We would then be served a bowl of wet newspaper with (clean) kitty litter, and a glass of green or blue (food colored) milk.
  • Numerous years where my mom would call our house phone from my dad’s work line so we heard the phone ring, then she’d run upstairs and tell us “NO SCHOOL!”
  • Many “injuries” involving ketchup
  • Quite a few false baby brothers or sisters

Did you play pranks today? I gave my students a “quiz” today that started with “Follow all directions before continuing,” then proceeded to tell them to do all sorts of crazy things like play ring-around-the-rosie with 2 other students, and then the last direction said “Now that you’ve read all the directions, go back and write your name on this paper, and put your head down.” Only a few fell for it though :(

I wish I had something to compare this chicken breast to. It was HUGE!

I wish I had something to compare this chicken breast to. It was HUGE!

Dinner tonight was simple and delicious. I got the WORLDS LARGEST bone-in chicken breasts, and I decided to roast them on a bed of onions, and rubbed with dijon mustard, garlic powder, and some Montreal chicken seasoning. 350* for about 40 minutes, and YUM!

When I say these chicken breasts were huge, here’s some comparison: my hand couldn’t cover the top of it. There were 2 chicken breasts in a package, and the package was 1.25 lb. Some might say that these chickens had “Mara-sized breasts”.

Yup, more gnocchi

Yup, more gnocchi

That stuff you see on the side of the chicken breast is some gnocchi, tossed with sauteed zucchini and mushrooms, garlic powder, a little olive oil, and fresh garlic. I topped it with a bit of shredded parmesan cheese for a “gourmet” touch. I think I’m developing a real love for gnocchi, especially because it only costs $0.99 at our local ethnic market, and I keep finding great recipes with gnocchi. You’ll probably be seeing a bunch more of this in days to come, at least until we get sick of it!

In other news (in bullet list form):

  • If you happened to be looking at my site at about 5:30 p.m. CDT, you may have noticed that the layout got a little “wonky.” I was having technical difficulties that are being worked out! Don’t worry!
  • I’m officially a fan of the delicious Jay Robb protein powder! My breakfast that normally holds me over 2 hours lasted a good 3.5! Thanks EatingBender and Heather McD
  • I’m adjusting to eating snacks when I’m actually hungry instead of “holding out” for dinner. I’ve found it helps keep my portions in check!
  • I’ve decided to run an Easter 10K! Jazzercise is GREAT training!
  • Biz over at Biggest Diabetic Loser is giving away a box-o-goodies for her April giveaway!
  • Michelle at LuckyTasteBuds is giving away Zoe’s Granola!
  • Becca at Bites of the Day is giving away CIA (the cooking one) loot!

Now, I’m off to enjoy a couple mini Cadbury eggs, watch Top Model, and stretch out my sore muscles from class yesterday. Have a great night!
