I got home from Jazzercise today and decided that the roast in the fridge needed to be cooked, and cooked quickly at that since I was SO HUNGRY!! I made what I’m kindly calling “stress-relief roast” because of its method of preparation. If you ever have a bad day (and you eat meat) the preparation of this roast is just about guaranteed to make you feel better!
Stressed?
Stress-Relief Roast
Ingredients
1 2.5 lb. eye of round roast, or other lean cut, trimmed
4 cloves garlic, cut into quarters lengthwise
2 tsp. olive oil
salt and pepper
Directions
Using a small paring knife (here comes the stress relief part), stab your roast all over in 16 spots. More if you want, but you’ll need to cut up more garlic. Insert the garlic slivers into each slit made by the knife. Rub the roast with the olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sear the roast in a hot, oven-safe pan, and then roast in the oven at 425* for about 35 minutes. Remove from the oven, allow to sit at least 10 minutes, then slice thin.
The garlic gets a bit roasty and the flavor permeates the meat and is just delicious! I made some oven-roast asparagus to go with the roast, and also some of my favorite horseradish cream.
Now, herein lies my battle. I’m definitely not hungry. I definitely WANT more food. I’m going to go with my more “angelic” side and NOT have more unless I get actually hungry. Thanks for your post, Krista! Your whole angel/devil analogy hit home!
I’m now going to do a very nice thing for Adam… he’s working the midnight release for Resident Evil 5 which means he’s at the game store until after midnight. I’m going to pack him a nice dinner and bring it to him at the store!
Some contests happening in blogland:
- Heather and Mark at HangryPants are giving away a nifty juicer!
- Gina at Fitnessista is giving away a cozy robe and slippers from Quaker
And, I just wanted to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your support on my post last night. It was hard for me to write, hard for me to cop to the fact that I may have unnecessarily been on a mood-altering medication for 6 years for no reason, and also hard to just put it all out there. Your kind words and support helped me get through today, and I sat and printed out my new dosage schedule rather than just taking the easy way out. I could’ve just stopped taking it… or continued… because it was easier. So, thanks to all of you!!!!
You do! You all do!
Have an amazing night, and happy almost Friday!
xoxo,

Looks like the perfect temperature! Yum!
I was having internet issues earlier today and am not sure if my last comment went through but I wish you the best with meds. I stopped taking lexapro and several other meds a few years ago (gradually) and have basically felt the same. My shrink was definitely med happy…and I was a little crazy. The only one I sometimes miss is the ADD med. I can get distracted really easily!

Wow, after the week you’ve had, you deserve some stress-relief food!
I read your post about going to the doctor, and I have to tell you – I think it’s great that you’re trying to wean yourself off of the pills. I don’t mean any criticism to the medical community, but sometimes I feel as though drugs like those are prescribed a bit too readily. I was on an antidepressant years ago, and while it helped my anxiety, it also made me lose my motivation to actively improve myself and my mental state. I came to rely on the medication and ended up being very passive about what was going on in my head. I know that for some people, antidepressants can be life-saving, but I believe that in all but the most extreme cases, patients should try lifestyle changes before they turn to prescription drugs for help. I applaud your decision – it’s hard to re-think what a doctor has told you! And good for your new doctor for being so supportive.
I’ve been blogging about my half-marathon training, and I have to tell you: regular exercise with a goal in sight has completely changed the way I think and feel about myself. It’s truly incredible! I hope you continue to experience this as you come off of the Lexapro. I also hope you get to experience a newly revved-up sex drive, because that’s what happened to me! My fiance was pretty happy about that.
Oh, and that 600+ calorie burn today? You’re incredible!
Good luck babe, and if you need any support lemme know! xoxo

@Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) I’m adding you to mine too!
I’ll have to try that stress-relief cooking technique!
I read your post last night, and good for you for taking charge of your health like that. And kudos to your doctor for listening and working with you to design a solution that (hopefully) will work out better for you in the end. Personally, I think medications definitely have a purpose, and can be very helpful, but there are other things to take into account too (does that make sense? It’s been a long day hehe).
I agree that exercise does WONDERS for mental health…at least it has for me. So keep it up!

That’s some pretty rare looking roast. I’m just used to my mom’s roast, which is definitely cooked all the way through. I like my steak medium rare though, so why not my roast?
And I’m glad you are feeling good about your decision with your medication. Weening yourself off slowly really is better than going cold turkey in the long run.

I love horseradish sauce with my meat too – and love that you like your meat rare too! We had neighbors over once, and we cooked steak medium rare. Our neighbor took one cut into it and said – could you make it all brown in the middle? No!!!

I can’t STAND when meat is “brown all the way through”!!!! The better the cut of meat, the rarer I like it!
That meat looks EXACTLY like how I like it – nice & red.

Nice site! I am liking the different font you have for the title. Are you using the Google Font thing or is it a plug-in? Would love to use that font. If it requires me going into CSS i might have to pass. I don’t like to go there……ya know? thanks in advance!
