I’m so excited to be hosting the BSI this week! I thought long and hard about what the ingredient should be, ran through a few ideas with Adam, and finally decided on one. Before I tell you though, here’s the history:
Week 18: Brandi @ BranAppetit! – Spinach
Week 17: Sarah @ Tales of Expansion – Dates
Week 16: Biz @ Biggest Diabetic Loser – Zucchini
Week 15: Ashley @ Sweet & Natural – Peppermint
Week 14: Andrea @ bella eats [and runs] – Ginger
Week 13: Amy @Â Coffee Talk -Â Walnuts
Week 12: Lindsay @Â For the Love of Oats -Â Pumpkin
Week 11: Melissa @Â Trying to Heal -Â Sweet Potatoes
Week 10: Meghann @Â The Inner Workings of a College Graduate -Â Eggplant
Week 9: Erica @ Itzy’s Kitchen - Pears
Week 8: Gina @Â The Fitnessista -Â Cranberries
Week 7: Shannon @Â Tri to Cook -Â Lentils
Week 6: Sabrina @Â Rhodey Girl Tests -Â Polenta

Week 4: Andrea & Erin @Â Care to Eat -Â Apples
Week 3: Rose @Â On a Lobster Placemat -Â Mushrooms
Week 2: Heather @Â Hangry Pants -Â Tomatoes
Week 1: Christie @Â Sportsnutritionliving -Â Quinoa
So, my selection of the ingredient was based on the following criteria:
- Easily accessible
- Vegetarian-friendly
- Hasn’t been used yet (duh)
- Multitudes of possible recipes

The BSI for this week is:
ORANGES!!

Juicy and delicious!
Why did I pick this superfood as this week’s BSI? Well, for one they’re in season. In-season foods always taste better! Also, oranges are known for their vitamin C content, but they also feature (from World’s Healthiest Foods)
Oranges are listed as one of the World’s Healthiest Foods!

From whfoods.com
Visit this site for more information on the wonderful orange!
Now, for the rules.
You may use any part of the orange, as long as its REAL orange. No Tang or anything like that! I’m also looking for accessibility. Try to not make a recipe that’s so intimidatingly complicated that you wouldn’t give it to a kitchen-phobe.
I’ll be posting the recipes on this page and the BSI Orange page as I receive them.
To enter:
- email the recipe and a photo if possible to imadedinner@gmail.com
- post the recipe on your blog and email me the link
The deadline is Sunday, February 15, and the winner will be announced on Monday, February 16. I’ve yet to decide your prize, so I’ll keep you posted on that. I’m looking forward to getting all the entries!
